You might take him fly-fishing in Montana or cycling through the Berkshires, for example. Or you could take it up a notch and give something that will provide a serious rush.

A lot of families are letting go this Fathers Day. Spending on Dad is expected to soar — to an average of $106.49 per Dad, up from $94.32 last year and the highest figure in the eight-year history of an annual National Retail Federation survey. Total spending on Fathers Day gifts will reach an estimated $11.1 billion.

According to the survey, more people will be taking Dad on a special outing, spending $2.1 billion on activities like golf, eating out or the movies. Dads will also receive gift cards ($1.4 billion), sporting goods ($653 million) and automotive accessories ($593 million). Traditional Fathers Day gifts like electronics ($1.3 billion), clothing ($1.4 billion), home improvement or gardening tools and appliances ($1.4 billion) and books or CDs ($598 million) will also remain popular.

But if you want to break the mold, here are some ideas that are especially popular among Fathers and sons. Warning: These are not for the timid and they will set you back plenty. But what a memory you’ll have. Here, then, are six ideas for over-the-top splurging on Dad this year:

Bill Clinton Hospitalized

Former President Bill Clinton was hospitalized Thursday after experiencing heart discomfort and had two stents placed in a coronary artery, an adviser said.

The adviser, Douglas Band, said Clinton was in ‘good spirits’ after undergoing the procedure at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Clinton had quadruple bypass surgery in 2004 to open four blocked arteries.

John Mayer’s Playboy Interview

Grammy-winning artist John Mayer is known for delivering explosive interviews, but the sexually and racially charged (and scotch-fueled) statements he makes in a profile in the March issue of Playboy sent shock waves across the Internet today.

This being a family Web site, most of Mayer’s most controversial remarks can’t be published. They were prompted by questions about his past collaborations inside the rap community.

What is being black? Mayer pondered. It’s making the most of your life, not taking a single moment for granted. Taking something that’s seen as a struggle and making it for you, or you’ll die inside. Not to say that my struggle is like the collective struggle of black America. But maybe my struggle is similar to one black dude’s.

One specific answer that drew an inflammatory response involved how he reacts when African-American women come on to him.

In response to the public’s uproar, late this afternoon Mayer dropped a series of Twitter messages that included justifications, explanations and an apology for using the N-word in the interview. I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged, he said.

Of course, ex-girlfriends Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson were talking points in the interview, too.

Sexually it was crazy, Mayer said of his under-the-covers adventures with Simpson. That’s all I’ll say.

The 32-year-old said that he and Aniston, 41, had deep feelings for each other, but were in different places in their lives: Have you ever loved somebody, loved her completely, but had to end the relationship for life reasons?

Mayer performs Friday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Can we talk about for a minute about Michael Jackson’s kids, Prince and Paris Jackson, accepting the lifetime achievement award on behalf of their father at the Grammys last night? First, they’re gorgeous kids who seem healthy and well-adjusted and it’s heartening to see them no longer hiding behind veils like they did when their dad was alive. But just because they aren’t hiding anymore, I’m not sure it’s the best idea to parade them in front of millions and millions of viewers only months after they lost their father.

Speaking on a stage like that is hard enough for a seasoned professional, but these are young kids who aren’t experienced performers. Poor Paris could barely get the words out, and what she said didn’t really make any sense. Can you imagine the mix of nerves and grief in a situation like that? I don’t know … maybe there’s an argument that accepting the award and publicly expressing the love they have for their father is therapeutic. I just hope they have people who are more concerned with their emotional well-being than turning them into public figures in Michael’s memory. What are your thoughts?(thefrisky.com)

Michael “Eyedea” Larsen , a celebrated rapper and freestylist, was found dead early Sunday morning. He was 28.

The rapper’s body found by his mother, who then shared the news via Facebook. The cause of death is not yet known.

A native of Minnesota, Eyedea rose to fame after strong showings at a number of free style rap battles, including the Scribble Jam battle in 1999 and HBO’s Blaze Battle in 2000. He would ultimately sign with label Rhymesayers and formed a partnership with DJ Abilities. Under the moniker Eyedea & Abilities, the duo released three full-length efforts, including 2009’s By the Throat. He also frequently teamed up with high profile MC’s Aesop Rock and Sage Francis.

Despite his fame in charity work he has not been seen in a lot of movies lately and his fans are desperate to see him on the screen again soon. There has been some speculation to Jonathan Lipnicki on Family Guy and it is not clear as to what future plans the actor has in mind.
